Ronald L. Smith, 91, of Elizabethtown died peacefully on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at the Masonic Village Health Care Center. He was the husband of Joanne M. (Wummer) Smith. They celebrated 63 years of marriage last November. Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Wilbur L. and Esther (Heberling) Smith. He proudly served in the U.S. Army with the 25th Infantry Division and dedicated his career to education retiring as the Administrative Director of the Cumberland Perry Area Vocational Technical School. Ron was a graduate of Reading High School and Temple University and went on to earn master’s degrees from both Lehigh University and Kutztown University. He was a member of Mary Mother of the Church in Mount Joy and was active in several organizations, including the West Shore BPOE #2257, the American Legion Conewago Post 329 of Elizabethtown, and Abraham C. Treichler Lodge #682 F&AM, where he was a Third Degree Mason. In his free time, Ron enjoyed woodworking and working with model trains.

In addition to his wife, Joanne, Ron is survived by four children: Ronald L. Smith Jr. (Coleen) of Northampton, Kevin L. Smith (Michele) of Crossville, TN, Stephen J. Smith (Amy) of Herndon, VA, and Christine Keefer of Mechanicsburg. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his memorial mass at Mary Mother of the Church, 625 Union School Road, Mount Joy, on September 23rd at 11:00 am. The family will receive guests at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Donations can be made in Ron’s memory to Mary Mother of the Church.
