Patricia A. “Pat” Helm, 94, of Harrisburg, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at Hospice & Community Care in Mount Joy. Born in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Margaret Daubert Miller. Pat was the beloved wife of the late Richard M. “Dick” Helm, who passed away in March 2010 after 25 years of marriage.
A proud 1949 graduate of Susquehanna Township High School, Pat devoted her life to education and lifelong learning. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education, with a concentration in English, from Albright College. She began her career teaching English at Susquehanna Township High School and in the Harrisburg School District before continuing her studies at Temple University, where she earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling.
Pat returned to Susquehanna Township High School, where she faithfully served for many years as a middle school counselor. She also shared her love of mentorship and teamwork as the junior varsity girls’ basketball coach. Even after retirement, her commitment to education never wavered, and she later served for several years on the Susquehanna Township School Board.
Pat was a dedicated member of the Zonta Club of Harrisburg-Hershey, an organization devoted to improving the lives of women in local communities and around the world. She believed deeply in service, compassion, and helping others reach their full potential.
To know Pat was to know someone endlessly curious about the world and deeply interested in people. An avid traveler, she explored much of Europe and journeyed to Australia, New Zealand, Iceland, and many other places across the globe. She loved reading, cherished time at the beach, and was an enthusiastic supporter of the Hershey Bears and Pittsburgh Penguins.
Above all, Pat was an educator at heart. She believed in the power of understanding others and embraced people of every background and culture with warmth, empathy, and grace. Quiet in manner but strong in spirit, she carried a servant’s heart and a sincere desire to help anyone in need. Her kindness, wisdom, and gentle presence drew people to her naturally.
Pat’s family and friends will forever remember her abiding love, compassionate spirit, and the bright light she brought into every room she entered. Her legacy lives on in the countless students, colleagues, friends, and loved ones whose lives she touched so deeply. ”My Mom embraced International travel and touched the sky like now in Heaven”.
Surviving is a son, Matthew Philip Amos of Lewisberry, a granddaughter, Carly A. Amos, and a grandson, M. Bryce husband of Maci Amos; and nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are three brothers: Howard B. Miller, Vaugh Ellsworth “Duffy” Miller, Benjamin Miller, and two sisters: Jean M. Miller Loughbridge, and Grace Miller Hepford.
Services for Pat will be announced at a later date.
