Mary Lou “Sue” Sahm of Lancaster, passed away in Hospice care on April 18, 2026 at age 96. Born in Columbia on August 3rd 1929, she was the daughter of the late Frank B. and Esther (Helwig) Hilgert. She was married to Kenneth C. Sahm for 55 years until his death in 2015. Following her graduation from Columbia High School, Sue worked for Tidy Products in Columbia as an Administrative Assistant for 15 years and later as a Sales Assistant at Watt and Shand Department Store for over 10 years. She was a dedicated 65-year member of Salem United Church of Christ in Rohrerstown.
Sue was a very beloved mother, grandmother, wife, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin and friend. She will be sorely missed. Sue will be remembered for her keen sense of humor, her witty remarks and her creativity. She was a talented seamstress and craft maker, happiest when at work on a project.
Sue is survived by her son, David K. Sahm, daughter, Amy L. Sahm (Steven Holland) and granddaughter, Elaine M. Sahm-Terada (fiancée, Joseph Montalbano) all of Lancaster. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Donald F. Hilgert.
In accordance with Sue’s wishes, there will be no public funeral with private internment at Manheim Fairview Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Landis Homes, Hospice Community and Care and most recently St. Anne’s Retirement Community for their dedicated care of Sue over the last 6 months.
