Mary A. Wenger

On Sunday, October 17, 2010, Mary A. Wenger of Manheim was surrounded by her family as God called her home and ended her courageous battle with cancer. She was 87 years old. Born in Manheim, she was the daughter of the late John S. and Anna Aucker Herr. She was the wife of the late Henry B. Wenger who died in 1958. Retired in 1988, Mary worked as a cook at the former Erbs Store, East Petersburg for nineteen years. She was a 1941 graduate of Manheim Central High School. Mary was the longest attending member at the Manheim Brethren In Christ Church, where she was very active. She was on the kitchen committee at the church for over twenty years. Mary volunteered for twenty-two years with Meals on Wheels, Manheim. Her interests included flower and vegetable gardening, quilting, cooking, traveling, reading and playing golf. She was a Philadelphia Phillies fan and she enjoyed watching the church league softball.
Surviving are five children, Faye A. wife of Ronald L. Witmer of Marietta, Ray E. husband of Pamela Wenger of Knoxville, TN, Doris J. Wenger of Strasburg, Nelson J. husband of Gail Wenger and Mervin K. Wenger both of Manheim; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one brother, Elmer husband of Joyce Herr and a sister, Verna Mae Stehman both of Manheim. She was preceded in death by one brother, Styron Herr and two sisters, Martha Knight and Miriam Burkholder.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Memorial Service at the Manheim Brethren In Christ Church Chapel, 54 North Penryn Road Manheim on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Greg Funk officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Mastersonville Brethren In Christ Cemetery, Rapho Township. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Saturday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Please omit flowers.
