Mahlon H. Bear, 99, of Brickerville, died peacefully on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at Ecumenical Retirement Community, Harrisburg. Born in Oregon, Lancaster County, he was the son of the late Carson Stark and Mary Ditzler Bear. He was the husband of the late Esther E. Ruth Bear who died in October of 2014. He was a 1942 graduate of Manheim Township High School. Mahlon retired as a woodworker for Washaw Design, Lancaster; previously he worked for Yerger Bros. Inc., Lititz. A proud veteran, Mahlon served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He attended Brickerville United Lutheran Church, and was a long-time member of Conestoga Hunting Club. Mahlon’s interests included: fishing, hunting, woodworking, and sewing, where he created many lap robes for charity.
Surviving is a daughter, Nancy L. (Rev. Dr. Jeffrey N.) Cartwright of Harrisburg, two granddaughters: Marie (Matt) Byers of Mount Joy, Sara (Sean) Moran of Sterling, VA, a sister, Verna Moll of Temple, and two brothers: Fred Bear of Lititz, and Vernon Bear of Ephrata. Preceding him in death is a brother, John Wesley Bear and a sister, Martha Beard.
