Lorraine R. Lewis, 92, of Lititz, died Friday May 2, 2025 at Brethren Village, Lititz. She was married for 65 years to George M. Lewis, who died in 2019. Born in Berkshire, NY, she was the daughter of the late Gail and Rebecca (Scott) Rood. Lorraine graduated from Newark Valley High School, NY, in 1950 and Cortland State Teachers College, NY, in 1953. A lifelong supporter of public education, Lorraine was an elementary school teacher for 30 years, primarily for the Hempfield School District. During retirement, Lorraine volunteered with the Literacy Council of Lancaster County, teaching English to immigrants on their path to citizenship. She was a member of Chiques United Methodist Church, Mount Joy, where she was the director of children’s church for many years and a member of the Elderberries and women’s groups. Lorraine enjoyed reading, watching Jeopardy! and PBS, working in the garden, baking, and spending time with family. She supported her children and grandchildren in their 4-H, sports, academic, and music activities.

Surviving are five children: Ken (Lisa) Lewis, Manheim; Carol (Robert) Johnson, Manheim; Jim (Abby) Lewis, Lancaster; Julie Lewis (Doug Lamborn), Lititz; Ellen (Bill) McCaffrey, Landisville; six grandchildren: Stephanie (Brett) Moore, Ben Johnson, Meghan (Kyle) Fisher, Michael Lewis, George Lewis, Jack McCaffrey; two great-granddaughters: Mia Moore and Maddie Fisher; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by siblings Robert, Norma, Evelyn, Arlene, and Ralph.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Life Celebration Service at the Brethren Village Chapel, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lititz, on Saturday May 17, 2025 at 1:30 PM. There will be a time of visitation and refreshment immediately following the service. Interment in Laurel Hill Memorial Garden, Columbia, will be private. Please omit flowers.
