Manheim

Linda Zerphey Doran, 77, of Manheim died on September 19, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. Doran, son, Christopher D. Doran and her brother, Henry A. Zerphey. She was the daughter of late Arthur R. and Gloria M. Rohrer Zerphey. Surviving Linda is her Sister-in-Law and Good Friend Janet Zerphey of Lancaster, her cousins, Jeffrey Zerphey of Lancaster, Ned Sterling of Elizabethtown, Mary Jo Bucklen of Lancaster and her nephews, David H. Zerphey of Ephrata and Michael D. Zerphey of Manchester TN.

Linda Graduated from Donegal High School in 1966 and graduated from Millersville University in 1970 with a B.S. in Elementary Education with a minor in English Literature. She did graduate work at Hofstra University in Long Island, NY and earned a Masters Degree in Education as a Reading Specialist in 1973. Later, returning to Millersville University, she earned a certification in Gifted Education and Reading Supervision. Post graduate work included doctoral course work at Temple and Widener University to become a Curriculum Coordinator.

She taught Elementary Education and Reading at the Elizabethtown Area School District and worked as a Reading Specialist at Manheim Twp. Middle School. She moved on to the Warwick School District to work with the Middle School Reading Lav and aided all four Elementary Schools with their Title 1 program. Linda retired from Public School Education and then tutored children at the Masonic Village Children’s Home for 13 years.

In her youth, she was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Mount Joy. Over the years she taught Sunday School, was President of the Youth Fellowship, sang in the Youth and Chancel Choirs and served as Youth Sunday School Superintendent for a year. But later in life, Linda needed something different. She found it in the serenity of nature all around her new home near the woods of Mount Gretna, the place where she had accepted the Lord as her Savior in her youth.

Linda enjoyed reading, traveling, scrapbooking, camping and badge work with the Girl Scouts of America. She was one of the representatives from PA to the Girl Scout Round-up in Farragut, Idaho in 1969. She loved animals, especially dogs and had them as pets her whole life.

Funeral services and interment are private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Linda’s memory to St. Jude Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis TN 38015.
