Lary R. McCowan, 83, of Lititz, passed away peacefully at his home on October 16, 2026 surrounded by his loving wife and children.

Born in West Chester, he was the youngest child of the late Robert T McCowan and Anna Mary McNeal McCowan. He also was the stepson of the late Frances McCowan. He was the beloved husband of Cheryl Kegel McCowan and they would have celebrated 61 years of marriage in November.

In addition to his wife Cheryl, Lary is survived by three children. Michael McCowan (Lynn), Deborah McCowan (Jeff) and Mark McCowan (Jenni),10 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and two sisters: Joan Weaver and Patricia. He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Ahern

He joined the United States Navy and served from 1962 to 1966, serving aboard both the USS Kirwin and the USS Earl B Hall stationed out of Norfolk, Virginia.

Lary attended Williamsport Area Community college to receive an associate’s degree in Architectural drafting from 1967-1969. Upon graduating, he was employed by the late Donald Reidenbaugh, founder of Reidenbaugh Hufford Associates. He then went on to work for AC&S out of Connecticut. Upon returning to PA, Lary along with his wife, founded his own business, LC Insulations, Inc, a veteran owned company, still operating today.

Lary loved helping folks out…. he always gave second chances to everyone who would apply for work at the company. Only asking that they were honest about previous employment and willing to “do the job”. The company was “family”.

He loved sports and coaching Youth League Soccer in Lititz.

And as a young man attending McCaskey High and Penn Manor High Schools, he was on both the swimming and basketball team.

Family was very important to him and he loved spending his time with both his children and grandchildren, going to their soccer and volleyball games and anything that they were involved in.

He loved being a “grandpaw!”

He loved driving around Lancaster County with his wife through the beautiful farmlands and rolling hills. The Fall season with colorful foliage was his favorite time of year. He and Cheryl would also enjoy many road-trips as well, to New England, Florida, and the Southwest.
