Larry Hicks, Sr.

Larry Hicks, Sr., 74, of Middletown, died Sunday December 5, 2010 at Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg. He was the husband of Esther (Hinkle) Hicks of Middletown, Born in Dickson TN, he was the son of the late Gerald and Bessie (Bateman) Hicks. Larry was a truck driver for New Penn Motor Express for 30 years before retiring in 1998, and was awarded a two million mile accident free safe driver certificate. After retirement Larry worked at Rutters on Derry Street and was lovingly known as Pop. Larry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He attended Capital Bible Church of Harrisburg. He was a member of Teamsters Union Local 776 of Harrisburg, was an avid football fan, and his current favorite team was the Pittsburgh Steelers, but his greatest joy was his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a son Larry Jr. husband of Emily Hicks of Harrisburg, a step-son Monroe husband of Jenelle Horne of Sebastian, FL; a daughter Cindy wife of Joe Conaway of Middletown, a step-daughter Sandra Davis of Harrisburg, four grandchildren, eight step- grandchildren, a great-granddaughter, seven step-great grandchildren, two brothers Harry husband of Effie Hicks of Middletown, Roy husband of Vickie Hicks of Enola, a step daughter in-law Beth Horne of Carlisle, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a step-son David Horne.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service from Capital Bible Church, 100 N. Hershey Road, Harrisburg, on Thursday December 9, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. There will be a public viewing at Capital Bible Church on Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers contributions in Larrys memory may be sent to Capital Bible Church, 100 N. Hershey Road, Harrisburg PA 17112 or American Cancer Society, 3211 N. Front St., Harrisburg PA 17110. Heilig Funeral Home, Mount Joy, PA is in charge of arrangements.
