Lance Elwood “Elie” Wright, formerly of Manheim, died at the age of 89 on September 23, 2024 in Scottsburg, OR. Born on August 27, 1935 in Cross Roads, VA., he was the son of the late Noah and Bernice Reece Wright. He was the husband of the late Patricia Wright. Lance joined the United States Navy after graduating from Manheim Central High School, class of 1953. He served on the first Nuclear Aircraft Carrier, the USS Forestal, USS Sarotaga, USS Jouett, USS Chicago, and the USS Warden. In 1979, he retired with the rank of Master Chief E-9 from the United States Navy after 26 years of service. Lance went on to work for the Nuclear Power Plant Division of Bechtel Corporation in California, Alabama, Utah, and Washington State. He settled in 1998 with his wife, Pat, in Roseburg, OR.
Surviving is a sister, Yvonne (Wright) Clingenpeel Kreider, three nephews; Tracy (Donna) Webb, Dale (Marci) Clingenpeel, Randy (Denise) Eshleman, a niece, Luann Kreider Frey, a great nephew, Marshall Webb whom he considered his grandson, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene “Rabbit” Wright and two sisters, Agatha Eshleman and Utha Webb.
Services are private. Inurnment in a National Cemetery.
