Judy K. Hawryluk

Judy K Hawryluk, age 79, of Lancaster, PA, went home to be with Jesus at the home of her daughter in Lancaster Township, where she resided since 2008. In addition to being a woman of strong faith in God, Judy was known by her love for her family and many dear friends.

She was born in 1946 to Earl and Dorothy (McCurdy) Richwine of Bainbridge, PA. Some of Judy’s fondest memories growing up included times with family along the Susquehanna River and with McCurdy grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins who lived in nearby Locust Grove and Billmeyer.

Judy graduated from Elizabethtown Area High School in 1964 after which she worked for the General State Authority in Harrisburg. She moved to South Annville, Lebanon County, after marrying the late Peter C. Hawryluk in December 1968. They shared 32 years of marriage, a family business and three children.

Judy’s personal mission over the years was “sowing seeds (of encouragement) among the young people.” Her motto was “bloom where you’re planted!” and lived it by example in the ways she supported church and community ministries where she was living at different times in her life. She began teaching Sunday school at age 15 at the Bainbridge United Methodist Church and enjoyed leading Jr. Girl Scouts. She taught children’s church at Fontana Christian Fellowship and supported her daughter’s Lebanon County 4-H Clubs. Judy treasured volunteer hours at the Lebanon Pregnancy Center and led dozens of summer Vacation Bible Schools, Pioneer Clubs and Kids Clubs in various communities and churches including Living Hope Church, Hummelstown; Grace Community Church, Manheim; Sunnyside and Habecker Mennonite Churches, Lancaster.

For over 30 years Judy worked in the office, library and classrooms at Manheim Christian Day School where she enjoyed encouraging students to grow in faith and love for Jesus. At home Judy never stopped praying for her children and grandchildren and would remind them at birthdays and every family gathering to “be a blessing!”

Judy is survived by her brother, Earl M. Richwine, Jr, as well as two children: a daughter, Dawn M. (Christopher) Landes, and son, Jonathan E. (Karrye nee Kreider) Hawryluk. Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Karlee (Tavon) Vazquez, Hannah (Aaron) Ayala, Leah (Philip) Miller, Andrew Hawryluk, Zachary Hawryluk, Isabelle Hawryluk, Malise Landes, Nathan (Natalie nee Weinmann) Landes, Rachel Landes and three great-grandchildren: Elias Ayala, Briella Miller and Lunea Ayala. Judy was preceded in death by a son, David R. Hawryluk.

A Service Celebrating Judy’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9, at Buch Funeral Home, 21 West Main Street, Mount Joy, PA 17552. Interment will be private in Bainbridge Cemetery.
