Elizabethtown

Joanne M. Smith, 86, of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully at her residence on November 3, 2025. Joanne was the loving wife of the late Ronald L. Smith. They shared 63 wonderful years of marriage before his passing on August 26, 2025. Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Leon J. and Margaret E. (Muringer) Wummer. A graduate of Reading Central Catholic High School and Kutztown University, Joanne worked in several social service and community roles throughout her career, most recently serving at Bethany Village in Mechanicsburg. She was a devoted member of Mary Mother of the Church in Mount Joy and served as Secretary of the West Shore Elks Lodge #2257. In her free time, Joanne was an avid reader, deeply faithful, and found great joy in spending time with her friends and family, along with the companionship of her beloved dogs and cats.

She is survived by her four children: Ronald L. Smith Jr. (Coleen) of Hickory, NC; Kevin L. Smith (Michele) of Crossville, TN; Stephen J. Smith (Amy) of Herndon, VA; and Christine Keefer of Mechanicsburg. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Mass at Mary Mother of the Church, 625 Union School Road, Mount Joy, on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive guests at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. In honor of Joanne’s love of the color purple, those attending are encouraged to wear purple. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mary Mother of the Church.
