James M. “Jim” Garber, 92 of Mount Joy, went home to be with his Lord & Savior, Monday April 28, 2025, surrounded by his family, at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Martha (Stauffer) Garber, they would have celebrated 70 years of marriage this June. His example of what a godly husband should be was recognized and admired by all who know them.
Born in Elizabethtown, he was the son of the late Monroe and Blanche (Kauffman) Garber. Jim’s strong faith in the Lord impacted every area of his life. He was devoted to his family making each one feel so loved and convinced they were his favorite. Family and friends alike were impacted by Jim’s kind and gentle nature that brought much comfort and encouragement to their lives. He and his wife were involved in agribusiness for many years, he had an entrepreneurial spirit and loved talking about business and agriculture. He was a former board member of Lancaster Bible College, The Mennonite Home, the former Hamilton Bank, and Farm Credit. He was a long-time partner of LCBC, Manheim Campus, where he enjoyed serving as a greeter with a ready smile for all who came through their door. After retiring, Jim & his wife Martha loved spending their winters in Florida hosting many dinners and welcoming family and friends alike to spend time with them there.
Surviving in addition to his wife Martha are their children, Jul wife of Timothy Hoober, East Earl, J. Philip husband of Cyndi Garber, Mount Joy, Earl Knipe husband of Tina, Mount Joy, Beverly wife of David L. Duma, Mogadore, OH, Roger husband of Patti Garber, Manheim, Melissa wife of Eric Herr, Lancaster; 22 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois wife of Curvin Buchen, Lititz, Arlene wife of Allen Kliewer, Harrisonburg, VA; and a brother J. Richard husband of Nancy Garber, Mount Joy; and a sister in-law Kathryn Garber, Lancaster. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two granddaughters, LeeAnn Fake, and Rebecca Herr; a sister Norma Garber, and a brother John Garber.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Celebration of Life Service at LCBC, main auditorium, Manheim Campus, 2392 Mount Joy Rd., Manheim, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at 4:30 PM followed by a time of visitation with the family. There will also be a time of visitation with the family at LCBC, on Tuesday evening May 6th from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Please use the auditorium North entrance via Esbenshade Rd.
