Gus N. Riley

June 1, 1936 — June 1, 2024

Manheim

Gus N. Riley, 88, of Manheim, PA, and formerly of Lebanon, PA, Christiansburg, VA, and Rush County IN, died peacefully on June 1, 2024 at Pleasant View Communities. Born in Rush County, Indiana, he was the son of the late Charles and Katherine Tilly Riley. Gus received a bachelor’s degree in industrial management from Purdue University and worked as a Production Scheduler for Volvo Trucks, in Dublin, VA, for over 30 years. He was the loving husband of the late Evelyn Maxine Riley who died in January of 2021 following 60 years of marriage. Gus loved spending time in the outdoors taking care of the plants, grass, gardens, and managing his many bird feeders. He thoroughly enjoyed watching the birds and other wildlife that surrounded his homes. He was a passionate supporter and fan of Virginia Tech Women’s and Men’s Basketball Teams. Gus had a deep love for his family and cherished any time he could spend with his children and grandchildren.  Some of his happiest times was playing games with his grandchildren, especially card games.  Gus always put his family first, showed up for every special occasion, and was always willing to help no matter the project big or small.  He adored his grandchildren and loved attending sporting or other events to cheer on his children and grandchildren.  He was a great listener and enjoyed hearing about, and constantly asking about, his family’s interests, hobbies, and other details of their daily lives.  Gus was often quiet but could also be quite silly, making us all laugh with him.  Gus will be so deeply missed.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law: Matt Riley and wife Lori of West Chester, Greg Riley, and wife Cyndi of Mount Laurel, NJ, six grandchildren: Jordan, Paige, Sean, Marisa, Madison, Colin, and a sister, Patsy Harcourt of Murray, KY. Preceding him in death is a brother, Steven Riley.
