Evelyn M. "Evie" Brubaker

Evelyn M. “Evie” Brubaker, 105, of Lancaster, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior and was welcomed into Heaven on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Trillium Place, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Ronks, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Lydia Campbell Pickel. Evie was a 1939 graduate of the former East Lampeter High School.

Evie was the beloved wife of I. Wayne Brubaker, with whom she shared 76 wonderful years of marriage before his passing on March 23, 2017. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and service to others. In 1945, Wayne founded I.W. Brubaker Plumbing, Heating, & Spouting, now known as Brubaker Inc., Lancaster. Evie worked alongside Wayne, helping with the office and quietly supporting the business and the family they built together.

Her faith was an important part of her life. Evie was an active and faithful member of East Petersburg Mennonite Church for over 80 years, where she served as a church trustee. She was also a member of Lancaster County Farm Women-Society 18. She was a volunteer at Lancaster General Hospital for 46 years. She and Wayne hosted Fresh Air children for 10 years, as well as many Rotary exchange students.

Evie found joy in the simple blessings of life. She enjoyed walking, card and game playing, traveling, and spending winters in Sarasota, Florida. But perhaps her greatest joy was her family. She felt blessed every day by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandsons. She had a deep and abiding love for each of them and took great pride in watching her family grow through the generations.

Evie is survived by her three sons, Donald, husband of Esther Brubaker; Gerald, husband of Margaret Brubaker; and David, husband of Kay Brubaker, all of Lancaster. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Douglas, husband of Elizabeth Brubaker; Brenda, wife of the late Jim Dietrich; Debra, wife of Karl Hancock; Neil, husband of Katey Brubaker; Brian Brubaker; Graig Brubaker husband of Carolyn Anthon; and Katelyn, wife of Justin Smith; eleven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandsons. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Eshelman, Lancaster, but predeceased by 11 brothers and sisters.

After 105 years of a life well lived, Evie leaves behind a beautiful legacy of faith, love, family, and service. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now at peace and reunited with her beloved Wayne, and that she is home with her Lord. The love she gave and the faith she lived will continue through the generations of family she leaves behind.

Her family sincerely appreciates the care and kindness provided by the staff of Woodcrest Villa, Trillium Place, and Hospice & Community Care in her final years and weeks. She will be laid to rest privately beside her husband in East Petersburg Mennonite Cemetery. A Celebration of Her Life will begin at 2:00 PM, Sunday, November 8, at Woodcrest Villa Eagle Commons Chapel, 2001 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster (follow directional signs from main entrance).
