Elizabeth Ann Shenk

Elizabeth Ann “Betsy” Shenk, 91, of Manheim, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 2, 2026. She was the beloved wife of J. Robert Shenk, with whom she shared 71 years of marriage.

Born in Deodate, Dauphin County, she was the daughter of the late Roy S. and Anna E. (Hoffer) Brandt.

Betsy was a graduate of Hershey High School, class of 1951. Upon graduation she was a secretary at Klein Chocolate. After marriage, she and Bob moved to Spokane, Washington, while he was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base. When they returned to Lancaster, they farmed the Shenk family dairy farm for seven years. She worked for Susquehanna Bank as a customer service representative and a notary, retiring with 21 ½ years of service. In retirement, Betsy worked at the Joyce Gibbel Gift Shop.

Betsy enjoyed traveling with her husband Bob, and visited Ireland as well as many U.S. states including Alaska, California, and Hawaii. Her hobbies included reading, walking, and playing golf. She was a secret shuffleboard and corn hole talent. She and Bob enjoyed buying and selling antiques at antique co-ops and shows for over forty years.

She was a Red Cross Volunteer at Lancaster General Hospital and a volunteer at Nearly Nu Thrift Store in Manheim. Betsy was a member of East Fairview Church, and served as secretary, and she was a member of the worship committee and the choir. She was known for her kindness and generosity to everyone.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a sister, Sandra (Joe) Pushnik, of Palmyra; her daughters, Bonnie (Ron) Strasko, of Lancaster, and Beth (Michael Tapp) Miller, of Kennebunk, ME; a son, Barry (Sylvia) Shenk, of Marietta; grandchildren, Kelly (Daniel Richards) Sullivan, Abby (Tim Lewis) Sullivan, Alexa (Alex) Lynn, Hayden Miller, and Stephanie Custer; great-grandchildren, Caroline Custer, Kamerin Custer, Silas Lewis, and Baker Lynn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Eric Custer, brothers, Rev. Luke, Roy, Jr., and Samuel Brandt, and a sister, Nancy Jay.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3 pm on August 30th in the Hoffer Auditorium at Pleasant View Communities, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim, PA 17545, with a time to visit with the family from 2 pm to 3 p.m. Interment will be private at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
