Elizabeth I. Betty Sullivan, 85, of 1126 Town Square South Manheim passed away on Friday, December 11, 2009 at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim.
Born in Hyndman, she was the daughter of the late John and Emma Glass Shroyer. Betty was the wife of Edward W. Sullivan and they celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary in April of this year.
She retired as a schoolteacher for Maryland School Districts. Betty was a 1942 graduate of Hyndman High School and a 1948 graduate of Albright College and received her Masters Degree from the University of Maryland. She was an active and faithful member of Ruhls United Methodist Church, Manheim where she was involved with the womens sewing circle. She was a member of the Womens Club of Manheim and volunteered at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim. Her interests included sewing, reading, cooking and she loved to collect cookbooks and thimbles.
Surviving in addition to her husband are five children, Peggy wife of John Sauter of Manheim, Edward Jr. husband of Janice Sullivan of Baltimore, MD, Roger husband of JoAnn Sullivan of Fallston, MD, Charles husband of Norma Sullivan of Manheim, Miriam wife of Eddie Church of Kentucky; ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and a sister, Claudine Coughenour of Berlin. She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Eckard.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Hoffer Auditorium, 544 North Penryn Road Manheim on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 7:00 PM with Pastor Randy C. Leitzel officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Ruhls United Methodist Cemetery, Rapho Township. There will be a public viewing at Hoffer Auditorium on Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM until the time of service.
