Edgar E. Haldeman, age 96, a lifelong resident of Manheim, passed away on March 11, 2026, into the presence of his Savior Jesus Christ, and to be reunited with his beloved wife Dorothy, who passed in 2021. He was the son of the late Frank L. Haldeman and Beatrice Wenger Haldeman.
He is survived by three daughters, Diane Weaver (Clifford), Terri Flatoff and Lori Harshaw (Keith), and one sister Eileen Haldeman Miller. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Jay and Lloyd Haldeman and a sister, Lois Fern Heisey.
Ed sustained a childhood injury that left him with the use of only his right arm, but he never let that stop him from providing for his family and living life to the fullest. He worked as a plumber and was a partner in the plumbing and HVAC company his father started and that he and his brothers later took over, F.L. Haldeman & Sons, until around 1976. Dad was always ahead of the curve, and at that time, sought a better work/life balance, so he left the business and went to work in the plumbing department at Longenecker’s Hardware store in Manheim for 40 years until his retirement in 2016.
Ed had close friendships with his shooting and hunting buddies. He had fond memories of many hunting trips in British Columbia and the western United States as well as Potter County, PA. He was an ace trapshooter and won many prizes and trophies for his trapshooting skills. He was a member of the Manheim Sportsman Club and a lifelong member of the NRA.
Ed loved to travel and along with our mother took many special trips, including several to Israel, Egypt, European countries, Bermuda and Hawaii. He also loved photography and dabbled in both video and still cameras, documenting hunting and pleasure trips alike.
He was a member of Pleasant View and Elizabethtown United Zion churches for many years. His church family played an extremely important role in Dad’s life, and we wish to thank them for the care and support they gave him over the years.
The family would like to thank the personal care staff at Pleasant View who helped Dad over the last 16 months and his nurses on LGH 5th floor for the care they provided during his final days.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Ed’s Funeral Service at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim on Monday, March 23, 2026 at 11:00 AM. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment in Pleasant View Cemetery, Manheim.
