Doris M. Bailey, 94, of Lancaster, died on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at The Glen at Willow Valley. Born in Lancaster on December 9, 1929, she was the daughter of the late David H. and Mary (Weaver) Mosemann. She was the wife of the late John Richard Shenenberger and the late Harold E. Bailey.
Doris was the Salutatorian of the former Manheim High School Class of 1947. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Millersville University in 1972 having returned to college for her teaching degree following the untimely death of her husband “Shenny” with two young children at home. As an elementary teacher at Eastern York School District for 19 years, predominately in kindergarten, she touched the lives of so many young students and their families.
A Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School director and member of United Methodist Women, Doris gladly shared her strong Christian beliefs while a member of Zion UM Church in East Prospect since 1954.
Always keeping busy and finding ways to satisfy her creativity and desire to do things to the best of her ability, she enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking and journaling. Marrying her second husband and fellow teacher, Harold in 1980 brought many new interests including music, traveling and continued learning. They moved to Willow Valley in 2004 where she joined the Quilt Guild and began quilting. She enjoyed learning new techniques but loved hand sewing the most and made many quilts, wall hangings, jackets and vests over the years.
Her family will miss her so much as she loved each and every one so much.
She is survived by a son J. Steven Shenenberger (Stacie) of York, daughter Susan V. Abel of East Petersburg; a brother Richard Mosemann of Colorado; two grandsons J. Dustin Shenenberger and Troy Abel (Laurie); two great grandsons Kyle (Emily) and Brady (Cristina) Abel and a great-great granddaughter Lucy Abel. She was preceded in death by two brothers David W. and Donald E. Mosemann; a sister Darlene M. Huber and a son-in-law Ed Abel.
A private graveside service will be held at Ruhl’s United Methodist Cemetery, Manheim.
