Charles A. "Andy" Rice II

Charles Andrew Rice II, age 90, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2026, at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Ruth (Shafer) Rice.

Known to family and friends as "Andy," he graduated from P.S. duPont High School in Wilmington before attending the University of Delaware, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE). Andy went on to work as a civil engineer for Ingersoll Rand Co. in New York City and Atlas Chemical Industries in Wilmington. While living in Iowa, he met Karen Coffman, and the two were married in 1976.

Andy is survived by his wife, Karen Rice; his children, Van Carpenter (Lisa), Ruth Sauers (Stephen), and Christine Harbin (Justin); eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his sister, Nancy Rice-Kiddoo. He was preceded in death by two of his sons, Christopher Allen Rice and Charles Andrew Rice III.

Interment will take place at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, Maryland, where Andy will be laid to rest alongside his sons.
