Carl L. Kreider passed away peacefully, with his wife Barbara by his side, on Thursday, June 5, 2025. He was born in Millersville, PA on December 2,1932 to Willis and Emma Kreider.
The family moved to Rothsville, Pa when Carl was five years old. There he attended Warwick Township High School, graduating in 1950. Three years after graduating from high school, Carl was drafted into the United States Army. He served for two years during the Korean War.
Loving to drive any kind of vehicle, Carl began working for several local trucking companies. Eventually he was hired by Jones Motor Company where he drove long distance for 26 years, until the company went out of business.
In his forties, Carl and his coworker and friend, Pete Barley, began playing golf. and it quickly became his passion. For neighbors, it was a daily occurrence to see Carl chipping golf balls around his yard. He studied golf magazines, always working to improve his game and loved recollecting highlights, such as shooting his age at 72 and a ‘hole in one’ at Monroe Valley. He enjoyed playing every week with a group of 12 men, who called themselves The Happy Swingers.
While golfing one day, he was introduced to his future boss at Conestoga Tours, and that was the beginning of his career as a tour bus driver which lasted for 26 years. Carl estimated that during his combined careers driving truck and bus, he drove about five million miles. After retiring, he loved transporting his Amish neighbors for 20 years.
Carl loved watching all sports on television. He was an avid Phillies, Eagles, and Penn State football fan and enjoyed talking about their wins and losses after the game with his family and friends.
Carl and Barb met at the Ephrata Fair in 1952 and were married at the Lititz Church of the Brethren on September 8, 1957. They are members of the Friendship Sunday School class, and Carl has served as an usher, a deacon, and helped in transporting elderly members from Brethren Village to Worship services on Sunday mornings for several years.
