William D. "Bill" Weachter, 78, of Elm, died peacefully surrounded by his family Saturday July 30, 2011 at his residence. He was the husband of Gladys (Ruth) Weachter, and they celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary this past January. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late William E. and Mae (Beard) Weachter. Bill was a mason for the former Ira Yeagley Masonry of Lititz, and was a pie maker for the Oehme Bakery of Lititz for 24 years before retiring in 1997. He was a graduate of the former Lititz High School, class of 1951. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Penryn. Bill had coached for Warwick Little League Baseball, was a co-founder of Warwick Midget Football, and the Warwick Alumni Football. He was a fan of Bishop McDevitt Football, Harrisburg, Notre Dame Football, and also the Philadelphia Eagles, Flyers, and Sixers, but was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan since 1948. One of his dreams came true when he went to a Notre Dame Football Coaches Clinic with 2 of his sons in 2005. Bill was also interested in the Civil War, and visited many battlefields and collected Civil War artifacts. Surviving in addition to his wife are four sons, William Kevin husband of Denise Weachter of Landisville, David husband of Vicki Weachter of Lititz, Jeffrey husband of Andrea Weachter of Manheim, James husband of Tracy Weachter of Lititz; three daughters Karen wife of Timothy Kroeck of Lititz, Patti wife of John Lefever of Lititz, Donna O'Reilly of Elm; twenty four grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and a sister Dolores wife of Barry Saylor of Lititz. He was preceded in death by a brother Gerald Weachter and a son-in-law James O'Reilly. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 W. Orange St., Lititz PA, on Tuesday August 2, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be in Penryn Cemetery. There will be a public viewing at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Monday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., and also on Tuesday morning at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
