Richard E. “Dick” Weidler, 91, of Ephrata, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at the Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Rothsville, he was the son of the late Monroe and Alice Ernst Weidler. Dick was the loving husband of Barbara Ann Smith Weidler and they observed their 56th wedding anniversary in June of this year. For over 39 years Dick worked in plastering construction for Mark Gehr, and later for Nolt and Nolt Dry Wall Contractors, Lancaster. Dick was a U. S. Navy veteran of WWII and was the recipient of the American Theater Ribbon and Victory Medal. He served on the following Navy vessels: USS Guadalcanal, USS J. Richard Ward, and the USS Haverfield. He was a member of the Cannon Hunting Camp in Clinton County for 68 years and was the last of the original members of the camp. Dick collected belt buckles, Zippo Lighters, and hat pins for years. He also enjoyed doing lawn work, growing flowers, and watching boxing. He was a good artist and this past summer he and his wife started advanced coloring books. Dick had a life-long passion for his family. He will be missed by his beloved cats: Mittens and Nikki. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the physicians and nursing staff at the Lancaster General Hospital for the care Dick received during his month long stay at the hospital.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Barbara Ann, is a daughter, Victoria Lynn wife of John H. Clair of Stevens, two grandchildren: Ashley Lynn Clair, Heather Ann Clair, a brother, Russell Weidler of Lexington and nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death is a son, Richard E.
