Reed W. Campbell

Reed W. Campbell, 90, of Manheim passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy. Born in Sewickley, he was the son of the late Charles G. and Cora Quivey Campbell. He was the husband of Anna Martzall Campbell of Manheim and his first wife the late Betty Holsinger Campbell who died in 1991 after 46 years of marriage. Reed graduated from the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland in 1945 and served as an officer in the United States Navy during WW II. He was an instructor in Mechanical Engineering at Grove City College until 1951, when he joined Patterson Foundry and progressed to Chief Engineer. In 1960, he joined Air Products & Chemicals, Inc. and served most notably as Chief Design Engineer. He retired from Air Products in 1983. In retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and travelled extensively by RV with his first wife, Betty, and later with Anna. He met Anna when they were both members of Loners on Wheels following the deaths of their first spouses. Reed and Anna married in 1994, and enjoyed 19 years of marriage, sharing the joy of RV travelling for most of that time. Reed was a member of Ruhl’s United Methodist Church, Manheim and previously, he was active with the 1st Presbyterian Church of Allentown.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Charles R. Campbell husband of Carol Campbell of Emmaus, Bruce E. Campbell husband of Karen Schulz of Silver Spring, Maryland, a daughter, Barbara Ann Campbell wife of John Rhodes of Livermore, California, 2 stepdaughters, Deb wife of Jim Roberts of Manheim and Sherrie wife of Jim Talley of Columbus, Mississippi, five grandchildren, eight step grandchildren and 16 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Wattleworth and three brothers, John, William and Guy Campbell.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his memorial service at Ruhl’s United Methodist Church, 4810 Elizabethtown Road, Manheim on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private. Friends may visit with the family immediately following the service during the luncheon. Please omit flowers.
