Paul E. Balmer

November 17, 1917 — December 2, 2017

Paul E. Balmer, age 100, of Lititz, PA, passed away on December 2. He was the
son of the late John A.G. and Laura Moore Balmer. He was the husband
of Evelyn Daveler Walters Balmer for almost 20 years. His first wife, Mildred Enck
Balmer, died in 1996 after 54 years of marriage.

Paul was a dairy, chicken and crop farmer until his retirement in 1985 and then
worked part time at the Manheim Auto Auction until he was in his 90s. He had a
sharp wit and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. The family farm was
a gathering place for extended family and friends. Paul often offered small jobs to
people who had fallen on hard times and had strong ties to others in the
community. When the main barn on the farm burned down in 1954, Amish and
friends held a barn raising to replace it.

Paul was an active member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lititz where he served
as a trustee, an usher, and on many committees over the years. In the community,
he was a past member of the Lititz Lions Club, a member of the Young Men’s Business
League of Lititz, a member of Manheim Masonic Lodge, and delivered Meals on Wheels for the Lititz area. Earlier in his life Paul enjoyed hunting and was a member of the Merry Men’s Hunting Club and later joined the Triple “G” Pines Hunting Club.

Surviving besides his wife are four children: James Balmer (Evelyn) of Lititz,
Hazel Nestleroth (Mark) of Manheim and John Balmer (Susanne) of Denver CO.,
and one step-daughter, Bonnie McCue (Kristopher) of Lancaster. He will also be
missed by nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren,
and a sister, Mildred Eisemann of Ephrata. Preceding him in death are four sisters: Martha Gibble, Alverta Balmer, Mary Longenecker, Ruth Tennis, and three brothers: J. Lester, C. Mervin, E. Roy Balmer.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Paul’s Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 West Orange Street, Lititz, on Monday, December 11, 2017 at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be private in Machpelah Cemetery.
