Kenneth M. Hontz

February 7, 1937 — March 31, 2016

Kenneth M. Hontz, 79, of Manheim, died peacefully surrounded by his family, on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the Lebanon VA Medical Center. Born in Nanticoke and a graduate of Catawissa High School class of 1956, he was the son of the late Russell and Mildred Thomas Hontz; and the stepson of the late Benjamin Klees. Ken was the loving husband of Hedwig “Hedy” Paegel Hontz and they observed their 55th wedding anniversary in July of last year. He retired from the Air Force in May 1979, receiving the Air Force Commendation Medal that followed a service career spanning 23 years as a Defense System and Radio Relay Equipment Technician. After retirement Ken was employed by International Signal and Control, Lancaster; and Sechan Electronics, Lititz. He was a member of numerous military and veteran organizations including Manheim American Legion Post #419 and enjoyed woodworking, working with small engines, CB radios, and helping with the Boy Scouts in his earlier years.

During his 10 year stay at the Lebanon VA Hospital, he was an avid bingo player and enjoyed gardening and art. Our thanks to the staff and nurses at the VA for the dedicated and loving care. Ken's nephew, Casey, was treated like family when he visited during Dad's last days.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Hedy, is a son, Kenneth B. husband of Judith L. Hontz and their daughter Ava, of Tucson, AZ., a daughter, Erica J. wife of James R. Hoffman of Manheim, Hedy;s sister Erika Fotaras of Rhodes, Greece, two sisters: Nancy wife of Les Garcia of Berwick, Molly wife of Charles Lukeski of Bloomsburg, four nieces and one nephew and their families.

Relatives and friends are invited to a time of visitation with the family at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Friday, April 15, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Interment services will be private and at the convenience of the family at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
