Kathryn "Kathy" Battista

June 1, 1942 — October 30, 2016

Kathryn “Kathy” Battista, 74, of Mount Joy, went home to be with Jesus Christ, her Lord & Savior, Sunday October 30, 2016 after a sudden illness at her home. She was the loving wife of Anthony “Tony” Battista. Kathy and Anthony would have been married for 55 years this coming December 26th. Born in Queens, NY she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Landwersiek) LaMonte.

Kathy spent her 74 years performing many roles, chief among them wife and mother. She was Anthony’s support and partner in every sense of the word. As a mother, she raised five children (three girls, two boys) while managing the house, managing schedules and always managing personalities. She was a rock and a shepherd to her children while simultaneously providing comfort and love. Kathy made the best home! Her gift was hospitality and she was blessed with it in abundance. Her family was first in her mind and efforts yet she always had time for friends and relatives. Kathy was selfless until the very end. She was also a wonderful Nonna/Grandmother to her eleven grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with them at parties, soccer matches, on lacrosse fields or special school events. It didn’t matter so long as she got some time with them. She was also a sister, a cousin, an Aunt, a daughter and a friend to many and the positive ripple that her touch has left on this world is enormous.

As for interests, Kathy loved to cook and travel. And what a cook she was! Her favorite dish was anything Italian but she could make nearly any dish imaginable. She loved to experiment and try new things. This extended to her travel where she and her husband and family traveled to different cities throughout the USA and the world. From Lancaster to London, Joppa to Jerusalem or Memphis to Mt. Joy Kathy traveled with enthusiasm and energy. She even traveled to FedEx field eight times a year to root on her Washington Redskins with the passion of a teenager.

Kathy was a devote Christian who most recently began attending Calvary Church in Lancaster. She devoted time to many church programs, outreach initiatives and other Christian endeavors to bring the word of salvation through Christ Jesus to as many people as she could touch. She would welcome your outreach to Calvary Church or any church to investigate Christ’s message of salvation.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three daughters; Paula, wife of Kevin Palmer, Millersville MD; Maria, wife of Jim Procter, Culpeper VA; Elena, wife of Bill Elliott, Kingsville MD; two sons, Vincent, husband of Rene Battista, Lititz, PA; Anthony, husband of Kristie Battista, Linthicum, MD; eleven grandchildren (Amber, Zachary, Vincent, Noah, Gabrielle, Eric, Clarissa, Luke, Jacob, Nicholas and Santino); a sister, Marita wife of Robert Goedeke, Wharton, NJ; and two brothers, Mark, husband of Angela LaMonte, Columbus, OH; and Gerard, husband of Sharon LaMonte.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Life Celebration Service at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 W. Main St. Mount Joy PA on Friday November 4, 2016 at 10:30 AM. There will be a public viewing on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at the funeral home from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
