James A. "Jim" Swan, 72, of Manheim, died unexpectedly of natural causes on Wednesday, March 23, 2011. Born in Henderson Township, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late, Ralph and Edna Spacht Swan. Jim worked for PPL as a construction line supervisor for 34 years before retiring in January 1995. He also worked part time providing general maintenance service for Brubaker Inc. in Lancaster. Jim was the loving husband of Dorothy J. McBride Swan and they observed their 51st wedding anniversary in May of last year. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Manheim. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and participated in the PPL Bowling League. Jim graduated from Stevens Trade School in Lancaster as a cabinet maker. He was the ultimate handyman; and was an expert in fixing any type of mechanical or home improvement for his family and friends. Throughout his life Jim's passion was his family and he enjoyed spending quality time with his children and grandchildren. Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Kim Allen husband of Susan Gray Swan of Lititz, a daughter, Christy wife of Brian Pedrow of Malvern, six grandchildren: Amy wife of Chris Enck, Molly, Adam, Alex Swan, Paul & Erik Pedrow, two brothers: Richard Swan of Huntingdon, Thomas Swan of Arlington, VA., two sisters: Marjorie wife of James Cowan and Barbara Smith, all of Newark, Del. Preceding him in death is a brother, Robert Swan, and a sister, Patricia Black. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 2:00 PM with Pastor R. Eugene Hill officiating. Interment will be in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Route 26 South, (Raystown Road) Walker Township, Huntingdon, PA on Thursday, at 2:00 PM. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM with additional visitation on Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
