Isabel C. Tompkins

Isabel C. Tompkins, 89, of Elizabethtown, formerly of Reading, died Sunday June 8, 2014, at the Masonic Health Care Center, Elizabethtown. Born in Boyertown, she was the daughter of the late Paul E. and Florence (Schlegel) Hartman. Isabel was the wife of the late Aulay P. Tompkins who died in 2011. She was a graduate of Boyertown High School, and the Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia. She worked for several years as an Operating Room Nurse at the Reading Hospital. Isabel was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in West Lawn, and a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Reading. Her other interests included ceramics and music, especially playing the piano.

Surviving is a son Gary, husband of Susan Tompkins of Reading, a daughter Ann, wife of Ray Kent of Lebanon, three grandchildren Kelly, Laura, and Gregory, three great-grandchildren, and a sister Marie, wife of Alton Smith of Willow Valley (Lancaster). In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a brother Carl Hartman of Boyertown.

Services and interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery will be private. Contributions in Isabel’s memory may be sent to, St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, 2901 Curtis Road, West Lawn, PA 19609.
