Harold Thomas "Tom" Wert

April 20, 1951 — August 1, 2017

Harold Thomas “Tom” Wert, 66, of Manheim, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Harold W. and Mary Hepner Wert. Tom was the loving husband of Grace E. Frey Wert and they would have observed their 45th wedding anniversary in October of this year. Tom worked in the building industry most of his life. From 1993 until the present time he was the owner and operator of Tom Wert Construction; previously he was a construction supervisor for Horst Construction. Tom was an active and faithful member of Grace Point Church of the Nazarene, Ephrata. In his early years he was a member of Erisman Mennonite Church, Manheim, and taught Sunday school and helped with the Boy’s Club program at the church. Tom had a life-long passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and trapping. He shared his passion for the outdoors as a member and leader of the Lancaster County Sportsmen for Youth. He was a member of the Manheim Sportsman Association, founder and leader of the Indoor Archery League; and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Grace, are two daughters: Tonya M. wife of Kelly Saylor of Manheim, Jodi C. wife of Jordan Wolgemuth of Lititz, a son, H. Anthony husband of Kate Wert of Landisville, two grandchildren: Isaac, Jacob, two brothers: Stephen L. husband of Kathy Wert of Elizabethtown, John husband of Milonica Stahl-Wert of Pittsburgh, two sisters: Jeanne M. wife of John Brubaker of Mount Joy, Janice M. wife of Ernest Miller of Elizabethtown, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death is a brother-in-law Dale Witmer.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Tom’s funeral service at Grace Point Church of the Nazarene, 110 Durlock Road, Ephrata, on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at 3:00 PM. There will be a viewing at the church on Saturday from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM with additional viewing time on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Penryn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Tom’s memory to Lancaster County Sportsmen For Youth P.O. Box 44 Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
