Elva Mae Martin

May 18, 1927 — November 6, 2016

Elva Mae Martin, 89, died Sunday, Nov. 6, at Landis Homes Retirement Community, Lititz. She formerly lived at 1178 Lebanon Road, Manheim. Born in Ephrata, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Florence Sauder. She and the late Isaac S. Martin had been married for 59 years.
She was a member of Hernley Mennonite Church and before that Kauffman Mennonite Church, both in Manheim.
Elva was a homemaker and a mother whose joy came from nurturing and raising her six children and spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved animals, especially cats and poodles. She enjoyed piecing quilts, which she made for each of her children and most of her grandchildren. An avid reader, she also collected bells, decorative plates, ruby glass and salt and pepper shakers. Throughout her life, she assisted her husband, a self-employed salesman, with his businesses. In her later years, she enjoyed traveling with him to Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Venezuela and various Caribbean islands through sales reward trips.
Elva is survived by her children, Jean, married to George Hurst, of Lititz; Ruth Ann, married to Ray Kilgore of Lititz; Joy, married to Raymond Weaver, Manheim; Glen Martin, married to Susan, of Lititz; Linda, married to Keith Espenshade, of Lancaster; and Philip Martin, married to Ruth Ann, of Manheim. In addition to her 18 grandchildren, she is also survived by 31 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by one brother, Harold Sauder, and a son-in-law, Dean Ebersole.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service at Erb Mennonite Church, 567 West Lexington Road, Lititz on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 10:30 AM. There will be a public viewing at the church from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Interment in Groffdale Mennonite Cemetery.
