Elizabeth H. Nissley

Elizabeth H. Nissley, 102, of Manheim, died peacefully on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at the Landis Homes Retirement Community, Lititz. Born in Manor Township, she was the daughter of the late Christian M. and Stella Mowrer Hostetter. A homemaker, she was the loving wife of the late Lester B. Nissley who died in January of 1985. Elizabeth and her husband Lester lived on a small farm owned by her father-in-law Simon Nissley, in Rapho Township, near Manheim. Later their family lived on Old Line Road. Elizabeth lived there for almost 59 years until she moved to Landis Homes at 98 years of age. Elizabeth enjoyed homemaking arts such as baking, quilting, sewing, and gardening. She also cared for her father-in-law Simon Nissley in their home in his last years and provided for a sister-in-law, Martha Nissley. Elizabeth worked as a corn inspector for Cope’s Corn, and volunteered for the Mount Joy Gift and Thrift Shop. In her early years Elizabeth was a Sunday school teacher, member of the sewing circle, assisted with many relief projects, and custodian along with her husband for the former Gantz Mennonite Church, now known as Grace Community Fellowship, Manheim, where she is a member.

Surviving is a daughter, Margaret wife of Robert G. Bruckhart of Richmond, VA., a brother, Harvey Hostetter, sister-in-law, Jean Hostetter, all of Lititz, a devoted nephew, Richard L. Nissley, and numerous Hostetter and Nissley nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are four Sisters: Dora Heisey, Miriam Breneman, Esther Myer, Mary Lefever, and a brother, Harold Hostetter.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Elizabeth’s funeral service at the Landis Homes Retirement Community, West Bethany Chapel, 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz, on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at 10:30 AM. Friends may visit with the family at the West Bethany Chapel on Tuesday evening from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM with additional visitation on Wednesday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Hernley Mennonite Cemetery, Manheim. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Elizabeth’s memory to the Mennonite Central Committee P. O. Box 500, Akron, PA 17501-0500.
