John H. Jack Stauffer, O.D., 84, of 11080 N.W. 34th Court, Coral Springs, FL, formerly of 253 Park Ave., Mount Joy, died of natural causes Thursday, July 22, in Lauderdale Lakes, FL. He was the owner of an optometric practice in Mount Joy with branch offices in Millersville and East Drumore. He practiced for 50 years before retiring in 2004 and was a member of the Pennsylvania Optometric Association. Dr. Stauffer was a former member of the Lancaster Church of the Brethren and a member of the Worship Center, Leola, also attending First United Methodist Church of Coral Springs. Dr. Stauffer was a Rotarian with perfect attendance for over 50 years and a Paul Harris Fellow. During WWII, he proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps. He was a 1944 graduate of Hempfield High School, a 1949 graduate of Elizabethtown College, and a 1954 graduate of Pennsylvania College of Optometry. Dr. Stauffer enjoyed attending Mens Bible Study, chopping wood for his woodstove, cooking for his hunting camp, ballroom dancing, and spending time with his grandchildren. Born in Salunga, he was the son of Edward H. and Alta Marie Herr Stauffer. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Evelyn G. Grabill Stauffer. Surviving are a daughter, Selisa K. Stauffer of Mount Joy; a son, Scott T., married to Kathy S. Heindel Stauffer of Coral Springs, FL; three grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth, wife of Raymond Boose of Martinsburg, PA. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his public viewing Thursday, July 29, 2010 at the Heilig Funeral Home, 21 West Main Street, Mount Joy, PA from 6:00 PM 8:00 PM.
