Curtis L. Johnson

September 27, 1930 — July 8, 2013

Curtis L. Johnson, 82, of East Petersburg went home to be with his Lord on Monday, July 8, 2013 at Landis Homes Retirement Community, where he resided for seven years and had lived with Parkinson’s disease for almost thirty five years. Born in North Carolina, he was the son of the late J. Clinton and Luetta Malone Johnson. Curtis was the loving husband of Ruth Dibert Johnson for forty seven years. In 1952, Curtis went to Bethany Hospital in Chicago to do his alternative service and continued working there until 1968 when he moved to East Petersburg. He worked in the purchasing department at St. Joseph Hospital, Lancaster and volunteered at Landis Homes. In 1971, Curtis was hired as an assistant administrator at Landis Homes and served in various roles until 1995. He was a faithful member of the Church of the Brethren all his life and served as a deacon at Hempfield Church of the Brethren for many years. Curtis enjoyed traveling, hunting, working on cars and he loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Alan L. husband of Lori A. Halenda Johnson of Manheim, a daughter, Beth Ann wife of Kevin Pratte of York, four grandchildren, Scott and Marc Johnson, Taylor and Brady Pratte, a sister, Jeannetta wife of Joe Grimes of Texas and two brothers, Defoy husband of Anna Johnson and Claude husband of Kathy Johnson both of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Johnson and a sister, Florence Setzer.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his memorial service at Hempfield Church of the Brethren, corner of Stevens Street and Metzler Road, East Petersburg on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 2:30 PM with Pastor Peter Kontra and Chaplain Jim Leaman officiating. Friends may visit with the family immediately following the service. Interment in Hempfield Church of the Brethren Cemetery, East Hempfield Township. There will be a time of visitation with the family at Landis Homes Retirement Community, EAST BETHANY CHAPEL on Friday evening from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Please omit flowers.
