Cheryl S. Magareata

June 13, 1952 — September 22, 2010

Cheryl S. Magareata, 58, of Manheim, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Hospice of Lancaster County, Mount Joy.

Born in Coatesville, she was the daughter of John Steffy Jr. of East Petersburg and the late Mary Ellen Steffy. Cheryl worked many years as a supervisor for Fenner Drives in Manheim; previously she was employed at Armstrong World Industries Marietta. She was the loving wife of Jon Magareata. Cheryl attended Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church East Petersburg. In 1991 she and her husband were instrumental in starting the Manheim Central Adult Soccer Program. Earlier in her life she developed soccer programs for children and adults in the Salt Lake City Utah area. Cheryl also volunteered her time with a Childrens Cancer Association in Utah and she helped her husband lead the Special Olympics Soccer Program in the Lancaster area. For many years Cheryl volunteered as a Junior Achievement Mentor, and Teacher, for the Manheim Central School District. She unselfishly gave of her time and talents to her community, and to her family that she loved.

Surviving in addition to her husband, and father, is a son Ion J. Magareata and a daughter, Ileana Magareata, all of Manheim, a granddaughter, Salestina Susan Smith, a brother, Eric husband of Linda Steffy of Manor Township, and a sister, Lisa wife of Mark Montemuro of Downingtown.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her memorial service at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1905 Broad Street, East Petersburg, on Sunday, October 3, 2010 at 5:00 PM. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Sunday afternoon from 4:00 PM until the time of the service. Those desiring may send contributions in Cheryls memory to Special Olympics of Lancaster County, P. O. Box 7442 Lancaster, PA 17604-7442.
