C Richard "Dick" Meloy

December 24, 1927 — April 12, 2010

C. Richard Dick Meloy, 82, of Pleasant View Retirement Community Manheim, and formerly of Millersville, died Monday, April 12, 2010 at the Hershey Medical Center following a battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) for nine years. Throughout his illness Dick and his family worked with the medical science community to help find a cure for ALS.

Born in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Charles Sumner and Anna Meryl Smith Meloy. For over twenty years Dick worked for the former RCA Corporation Lancaster. Previously he was the owner and operator of his own farm in the Willow Street area. He served during World War II for the U S Army Corp of Engineers. Following his military service, Dick graduated from Penn State University Affiliate Veterans Administration Agriculture Program. He was the loving husband of Doris Ann Lefever Meloy and they would have observed their 60th wedding anniversary in December of this year. Dick was a member of Willow Street United Church of Christ and also attended St. Paul Lutheran Church Millersville. Dick was active and volunteered many hours with the Boy Scout Troup in the Millersville area and the Millersville Recreation Association. His interests included: U.S. history, woodworking and building model airplanes.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons: Charles Jon husband of Faye Ann Yatsko Meloy of Thorofare, N.J., Richard B.L. husband of Robyn Lamb Meloy of Cleveland, OH., two daughters: Donalee M. Hughes and Kelly A. wife of Mark Gutshall all of Lititz, five grandchildren: Jeffrey and Jennifer Hughes, Kristine Brooke Gutshall and Sophie A.C. Meloy. Preceding him in death is a son-in-law, Daniel E. Hughes.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his memorial service from the Hoffer Auditorium at Pleasant View Retirement Community 544 North Penryn Road Manheim on Sunday, April 18, 2010 at 2:00 PM. Interment will be private in Conestoga Memorial Park Lancaster. Friends may visit with the family in the Hoffer Auditorium on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
