Anna Witmer Martin

August 31, 1923 — November 30, 2010

Anna Witmer Martin, 87, of Manheim, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Born in Manheim Township, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin H. and Ella (Erb) Shenk. Her first husband and the father of her children, J. Abram Witmer, passed away in 1960. Her second husband, Earl L. Martin, preceded her in death in 1991.
Anna was a member of Erisman Mennonite Church. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, music, watching the Phillies, playing games with her family, and making comforts for MCC. She was a graduate of Hempfield High School, class of 1941 and had worked in the cafeteria at the Mennonite Home and Lancaster Mennonite School.
Surviving Anna are her children Lois (Witmer) wife of Rev. David Gehman of Parkesburg, and J. Robert Witmer of Manheim; two grandchildren Sarah Ann wife of Benjamin Bixler, and Matthew David husband of Samantha Gehman; two great-grandchildren Calvin and Evangeline Bixler. She was also preceded in death by a daughter Orpha Mae Witmer; a great-granddaughter Susannah Rose Bixler; three sisters Esther Brubaker, Naomi Brenneman, and Ruth Geib; and two brothers Henry and Benjamin E. Shenk.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service from the Erisman Mennonite Church, 8 South Erisman Road, Manheim PA on Saturday December 4, 2010 at 11:15 A.M., with a viewing prior from 10:00 until 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Erisman Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Annas memory may be sent to the Mennonite Central Committee, 21 South 12th Street, Akron PA 17501. Heilig Funeral Home, Mount Joy is in charge of arrangements.
