Alvin L. Brendel, 88, of Manheim passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the Susquehanna Valley Nursing Center, Columbia. Born in Lititz, he was the son of the late Harry S. and A. Elsie Wolf Brendel. He was the husband of the late Dorothy L. Frey Brendel who died in 2000. Retired in 1986, Alvin was the first hired employee and electrician at the former Warner-Lambert Company, Lititz for over twenty nine years. Previously he worked at the Philadelphia Electric Company, Sensenich Propellers, Lititz and Roy Reidenbach Electrician where he helped with wiring at several area schools. He was of the Lutheran faith and graduated in 1942 from Stevens Trade School, Lancaster as an electrician. Alvin was a veteran of the United States Air Force during WW II where he served as a radio operator and technical sergeant on a B-24 Bomber and flew 27 flight missions in Germany. He was awarded three bronze oak leaf clusters and three bronze stars. His interests included hunting, fishing, traveling and reading. Surviving are two sons, John T. husband of Brenda Cyzick Brendel of Manheim, Thomas A. husband of Pamela Baker Brendel of Mount Joy, four grandchildren, Thomas J., Tara L., Carissa M., Penny L. and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tina, two brothers, Harry and Richard Brendel, three sisters, Irene Cristie, Dollie Donohue and Betty Jane Amoedo. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Alvin's viewing at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim on Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment in Manheim Fairview Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family. Please omit flowers.
