Support Groups & Services
When a loved one dies, the bereaved family and friends need to mourn in order to move on with life. But healing also requires the support and understanding of those around them and in some cases, those outside their family and friends who have shared the same experience. To find a support group in the Central PA area, view the listing of organizations below or contact us for more information.


Online resources include discussion forums, educational tools, and a community for people who are dealing with grief. You may find one or more of the following organizations to be helpful:

GriefShare utilizes video seminars, support groups, and personal study and reflection to help others cope with loss and grief in the most effective manner possible. There are at least 30 GriefShare groups meeting in person and/or online in the Lancaster area.

The Pathways Center for Grief & Loss is a free resource to the entire community, regardless of whether your loved one is or was a hospice patient. Specializing in helping people cope with serious illness or loss after death, they offer support groups, individual counseling, online support, children’s support groups and more.

The Highmark Caring Place provides peer support to children, adolescents and families grieving the death of a parent or primary caregiver, or a brother or sister. Services are offered free of charge to grieving families.

The Samaritan Counseling Center offers counseling, education, and consultation services to strengthen, empower and heal children, adults, couples, families, businesses, organizations, and church groups throughout Lancaster County. They believe that healing is an integrated process that encompasses mind, body, spirit and community. The multi-disciplinary team approach includes professionals with medical, educational, clinical, business and pastoral experience.

Open to Hope is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people find hope after loss. They offer over 7,000 articles, a podcast, video programs, and an online community to help people deal with difficult losses and continue to live happy, meaningful lives while working through grief.
