Joanne always said that my daughters were the girls she never had. My daughters in turn loved her like a second mother. Little did she know that she was a parenting mentor to me. I listened and watched and hopefully learned so much from her. One piece of advice stuck with me all these years. She said, "Your children will never remember how much dust is under your bed, but they will remember what you do with them." That's why my daughters would come home and tell me that they husked corn today, or cleaned green beans, or baked cookies. I'm sure it would have been easier for Joanne to tell them to go play and then do those chores herself, but the time she spent with them was more important than the task itself. Joanne was a woman who touched the lives of more people than she could have know. She will be missed by many. Donna Gerhard

Joanne is the best Aunt you could have, Erika is correct, she never missed a birthday card. So many kids will remember the great times on her porch, her kindness, and her sense of humor. Barry, Galen, Nip, Kevin, Stuart, and your families... we will pray for the healing that will come after this difficult time. Just so glad we got to see you all at Christmas and over the summer at Joanne's favorite place... Rehoboth. God Bless. Love, The Shelly family...Steve, Erika, Courtney, Kaitlyn, and Jake.

Jo is just so caring. Every year my siblings and I got a birthday card and not a year was forgotten. I have a hard time remembering their birthdays let alone my own and not one year has gone by that I havent been extremely grateful and pleasured to have her in our lives. Its hard living 2400 miles away and only wishing we could spend more time with her and the rest of our family. Jo you will be missed so much and loved so dearly. May God be with you and the rest of us and may you have a beautiful eternal life :) with love, Erika Shelly

I was so lucky to be one of those many children who were able to be loved and cared for by Mrs. Brown. I have so many fond memories of spending time with her in her home and at Sandy Cove. I remember the clean up song, "A helper kind and good", playing school and other pretend games in the front room, and her stories right before naps. I also remember running over to her cupboard as soon as I got there for my breakfast cereal even when I already had eaten at home. She always had my favorites. My sympathy goes out to her family. Mrs. Brown was an angel to many people here on earth, including me. May many fond memories give you peace as you celebrate her life and the love she has left behind. She will be missed. -Deni Gerhard-Weaver
