Yvonne C. "Bonnie" Glatfelter

February 23, 1928 — April 4, 2018

With great sorrow the children of Bonnie Glatfelter mourn her passing on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. Bonnie and her husband Dick lived many joyful years in East Petersburg. Born, Yvonne Clark, daughter of the late Mervin and Vera (Heiss) Clark, February 23rd, 1928. She lived her childhood years on the grounds of what would become the Landis Valley Farm Museum.

Bonnie graduated from Manheim Township High School in 1946. She pursued a career in nursing and graduated in the class of 1949. She met her husband, Richard L. “Dick” Glatfelter of 61 years in the LGH Emergency Room after he was in a car accident which resulted in two broken legs and a four-month stay in the hospital. A romance ensued and the couple married in May of 1950. She remained very active in the Alumni organizations of LGH. Bonnie did private duty nursing and working and volunteering many years at Luther Acres where she and Dick consequently retired. Elementary students of East Petersburg will remember her as the nurse who passed out the Sabine vaccine in sugar cubes during the Polio Epidemic.

She is survived by her three children: Michael, Philadelphia; Becky Zinser (Fred), Denton, Md.; Amy Huber (Andy), Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Along with her husband, Dick, Bonnie enjoyed activities with family and friends involving their ponies. In the 1960's, she was a founding member of the Red Rose Horse and Pony Club. For sixty-eight years she was an actively involved member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, East Petersburg and participated in church life by teaching Sunday School and serving on many committees, and in later years senior activities. Bonnie and Dick were founding members of the East Petersburg Historical Society. Bonnie was also active in the Casper Glattfelder Foundation.

She was especially proud of her children's and grandchildren's musical abilities and performances. Her grandchildren are Patrick Huber (Jane), Shenzhen, China; Karl Huber, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; Greta Huber, Wilmington, DE.; and Abbey Rose Wroten, Denton, Md.
