Sidney R. Graybill

Sidney R. Graybill, 91, a life-long resident of East Petersburg, died peacefully on Friday, May 25, 2018 at the Lancaster General Hospital. Born in East Petersburg, he was the son of the late Reid M. and Mary Seitzinger Graybill. Sid was the loving husband of 57 years to the late Mary Nestel Graybill who died in December of 2009. He retired from Armstrong World Industries after working for over 46 years. Sid proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II. A 33rd Degree Mason, Sid was member of the Andrew H. Hershey Masonic Lodge # 764 which assimilated to the Lancaster Masonic Lodge # 43, Zembo Temple, Lancaster County Shrine Club, York County Shrine Club, and Rajah Shrine Club, Reading. Sid was a member of the Rajah Shrine Oriental Band, Reading; and volunteered many years transporting children and families for treatment at the Shriners Hospitals For Children in Philadelphia. He was a member of Hamilton Park United Church of Christ, Lancaster, where he served as a Deacon. Sid also attended Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, East Petersburg. For many years he was a volunteer fireman for the East Petersburg Fire Company. Sid had a deep passion for sports and was a softball umpire for 50 years for the Lancaster County Amateur Softball Association. On the field of play he was respected for being fair and clear with the calls, “as he saw them”. He loved rooting for his favorite teams the Philadelphia Phillies, and Penn State Football. Sid was known as the neighborhood “watch dog” to the joy of his friends and neighbors; and had a love for chocolate candy. He was loved by family and friends alike.

Surviving are two sons: Stephen N. husband of Paula Graybill of Lancaster, David R. husband of Tina Graybill of Bishopville, MD., four grandchildren: Courtney, Davina, Alexis, and Chad. A Niece: Karen Latham of Pittsboro, NC. Sid will be lovingly missed by his companion of seven years, Pauline Eanes of East Petersburg. Preceding him in death is a brother, Reid “Bud” Graybill and a sister, Sarah Mease.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to a service to celebrate Sid’s life at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Trinity United Church of Christ Cemetery, East Petersburg.
