Shirley L. Smith

Shirley L. Smith, 83, of Manheim passed away peacefully at home after a short illness on Friday, March 17, 2017. Born in Elizabethtown, she was the daughter of the late Herman G. Kreiner and Maria Hollinger Kreiner. She was the wife of the late Joseph Smith Jr. who died in 2000. Retired in 1999, Shirley worked as a secretary at the Manheim Foundry Inc. for fifteen years. In her earlier years, she worked at Buckeye Gas in the Manheim office, Manheim Central Junior High School as a para-professional and part-time as a census taker for the Manheim Central School District. Shirley was an active and faithful member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, Manheim where she served as a Trustee, church treasurer and Sunday school secretary/treasurer for many years. She was also a member of the Manheim Historical Society and was a Girl Scout assistant leader in the Manheim area. Shirley enjoyed watching a variety of sports, completing word searches, and keeping up with current events. She loved spending time with her family and was proud of all her grandchildren's accomplishments.

Surviving are three daughters, Diane L. wife of Paul H. Bruckhart Jr. of Manheim, Stephanie A. wife of Francis J. DiCola of Mount Joy, Vicki L. Smith companion of Mark Tyler of Manheim; two grandchildren, Timothy Bruckhart and Emily DiCola, one step grandson, Adam Bruckhart, two great grandchildren and one step great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother, Dale H. Kreiner and two sisters, Faye H. Kreiner and Allegra H. Leininger.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service at Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, 48 Market Square, Manheim on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 11:00 AM. There will be a public viewing from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment in Manheim Fairview Cemetery, Penn Township.
