Pastor John P. Layman

Pastor John P. Layman, 64, of Lancaster, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at the Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Newark, N.J., he was the son of the late Thomas F. and Ernestine Keller Layman. John was a graduate of Elizabethtown College and Bethany Theological Seminary. He was the loving husband of Margaret E. “Peggie” Drollinger Layman, and they would have observed their 33rd wedding anniversary in June of this year. For over 35 years John faithfully served as Pastor at numerous Church of the Brethren Congregations as well as Chaplain of the Brethren Home Community in New Oxford, PA. Recently he retired as Senior Pastor at Hempfield Church of the Brethren, East Petersburg, where he was a member.

Surviving in addition to his wife, is a son, Christian John Layman of Winnipeg, Canada, a brother, Thomas W. husband of Sharon Layman of Oak Park, Ill, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend John’s service of remembrance and thanksgiving at the Hempfield Church of the Brethren, corner of Stevens Street and Metzler Road, East Petersburg, on Sunday, May 12, 2013 at 3:00 PM; with special worship music starting at 2:30 PM. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Goodwill Cemetery, McAlisterville, PA. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church immediately following the service on Sunday afternoon.
