Larry E. Peifer

August 12, 1950 — May 11, 2017

Larry E. Peifer, 66, of Manheim, passed away unexpectedly after a biyak accident on Pine Creek in Tioga County. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Norman S. and Alice Witmer Peifer. He was the loving husband of Valerie J. York Peifer; they would have celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary in June. A building contractor for many years, he owned and operated Larry E. Peifer Builder, Manheim. Larry was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church, Lancaster; Arnot Sportsman’s Club, Tioga County; Elstonville Sportsmen Association and Germania Band Club, both of Manheim. A sports enthusiast, Larry coached girls softball for the Manheim Athletic Association, played men’s fast pitch softball as a third baseman, and was elected to the Lancaster County Softball Hall of Fame. His interests included gardening, hunting, fishing, traveling, Phillies baseball, and his cabin in Tioga County. Larry enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and with his camp buddies which includes three generations of family members and good friends.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Lynn (Ryan) Scalise of Latrobe, Lisa Marie Peifer (William Hughes) of Clarks Summit, two grandchildren, Nina and Nico Scalise, three brothers, J. Robert (Helen) Peifer, N. Donald (Alyce) Peifer, Gerald W. (Susan) Peifer and a sister, Dorothy J. (James) Fricke.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Larry’s memorial service at Highland Presbyterian Church, 500 East Roseville Road, Lancaster on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 2:00 PM. Friends may visit with the family at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim on Thursday evening from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM and again at the church on Friday immediately following the service.

Interment will be private at Manheim Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send contributions in Larry’s memory to the following for their extraordinary search and rescue effort: Morris Fire Company, P.O.
