John H. Hornberger Sr.

July 4, 1933 — January 5, 2011

John H. Hornberger Sr., 77, formerly of Mastersonville Road, Manheim, died peacefully following a brief illness on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at the Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim.

Born in Rapho Township, he was the son of the late William F. Sr. and Josephine Dickel Hornberger. John worked for over thirty years for the former Raymark Industries Manheim. He was the husband of the late Elsie L. Sawadsky Hornberger who died in 2007. John was a member of the Manheim Masonic Lodge 587, and the Tall Cedars Of Lebanon. In his early years he enjoyed motorcycle riding and was a member of the American Motorcycling Association. His interests included NASCAR racing and following his favorite driver Richard Petty. John also loved to hunt, and travel to the family cabin in Perry County. Family was important to John, and he spent many special times with his grandchildren during his life.

Surviving is a son, John H. Jr. husband of Janet Bernhardt Hornberger of Manheim, three grandchildren, Tesha, Katie, Tyler Hornberger, a brother, Clyde E. husband of Beatrice Pat Hornberger of Manheim, and two sisters: Ellen Jean Palmer and Elsie Stasko all of Manheim. Preceding him in death is a sister, Nora H. Gebhard, and two brothers: David S. and William F. Hornberger Jr.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the Buch Funeral Home 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Monday, January 10, 2011 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Lee R. Damon officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hope Mennonite Cemetery, Rapho Township. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM with additional viewing time on Monday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service.
