James L. Coleman

January 29, 1921 — October 16, 2014

James Leo Coleman, 93, of Manheim, died peacefully on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at home surrounded by his daughter and granddaughter; and went to be with his angels in heaven. Born in Manheim, he was the son of the late Leo E. and Edith Faust Coleman. Jim was the loving husband of the late Helena M. Peters Coleman who died in 1997. He proudly served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. For over 28 years Jim worked as a letter carrier for the United States Post Office, Manheim Branch. He also worked as a lane supervisor for 10 years for the Manheim Auto Auction, retiring in 1995. Jim was a 1941 graduate of Williamson Free Trade School, of Media, Delaware County, and was a lifetime member of the Williamson Trade School and Williamson Alumni Association. He was also a lifetime member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manheim, Manheim Historical Association, Manheim VFW, Manheim American Legion, and the Hope Fire Engine and Hose Company Number One of Manheim. Jim’s interests included fishing and camping, and he was a charter member of the Manheim Rambling Roses Camping Group.

Surviving is a son, Kenneth L. husband of Jane Gundel Coleman of Victor, N.Y., a daughter, E. Joanne Coleman Tome of Manheim, 6 grandchildren: Nadine Melahn, Cortney Schaeffer, Marlane Hall, Todd Coleman, Denise Wuthrich, Tara Brooks, 18 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild to arrive soon. Preceding Jim in death are 6 sisters: Katherine Thieme, Elsie Myers, Dorothy Haug, Esther Duncan, Bernice Johnston, Ethel Coleman, two brothers: Robert and Thomas Coleman, and a grandson-in-law.

The family would like to thank Hospice and Community Care and their care teams for all the support and loving care given to Jim during his illness and home going.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Jim’s memorial service at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2 South Hazel Street, Manheim, on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 11:00 AM. There will be a viewing at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Monday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. There will be no viewing on Tuesday morning. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday morning at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Manheim Fairview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Jim’s memory to the Manheim Central Food Pantry 140 North Penn Street, Manheim, PA 17545 or Hospice and Community Care, P. O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
