James Bube "Jim" Heilig

April 21, 1918 — August 25, 2013

James Bube “Jim” Heilig, 95, of Mount Joy passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim. Born in Mount Joy, he was the son of the late Dr. William Richard and Pauline Antonia Bube Heilig. He was the loving husband of seventy six years to Dorothy E. Moedinger Heilig. Jim founded, owned and operated the former James B. Heilig Funeral Home in Mount Joy. He opened the funeral home in 1949 and retired from the business in 1988. Jim served in the United States Navy during WW II on the USS Franks. Most of his time in service was in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. Jim was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mount Joy where he served as Church treasurer for twenty five years. He was active in various organizations including: Mount Joy Rotary Club, Boy Scouts of America, Mount Joy Chamber of Commerce, Mount Joy VFW Post 5752, Mount Joy American Legion Post 185, Mount Joy Fire Department and the local, state and national Funeral Directors Association.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Jane, wife of Greg McKain of Maryland, and Jean, wife of Lane Ellis of Mount Joy; two grandchildren, Nic, husband of Kate Ellis of York Springs, and Kelsey, wife of Eric Brandt of Maryland. He was preceded in death by seven siblings, Alois B. Heilig, Robert B. Heilig, William Richard Heilig III, Elizabeth “Sis” Heilig Woodward, Pauline H. Duke, Edward B. Heilig and Mary B. Heilig.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at Trinity Lutheran Church, 47 West Main Street, Mount Joy on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 10:00 AM. Interment in Mount Joy Cemetery with military honors. There will be a public viewing at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 West Main Street, Mount Joy on Friday evening from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of service.
