Glenn H. Witman

Glenn H. "Dutch" Witman, 88, of Manheim, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, April 13, 2011. Born in Manheim, he was the son of the late Frank Witman and Stella Hilton Witman Helt and stepson to the late Henry Helt. Glenn retired from Howmet Corporation, Lancaster, previous he was employed by White Oak Mills and the former Jacob Nauman Construction Company, Manheim. Earlier in his life he worked on farms in the Manheim area. He was the loving husband of Ruth A. Ruhl Witman and they observed their 54th wedding anniversary in November of 2010. Glenn was a Staff Sergeant, in the United States Army proudly serving his country as an ambulance driver during World War II. He was a life member of the Manheim VFW Post 5956, the 99th Infantry Division Association, and many local veterans' groups. Glenn was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Manheim. In his early years Glenn served on church council and was very active on many committees at Jerusalem United Church of Christ in Penryn. He was also a member of the Manheim Historical Association. An avid hunter, he was a member of the Hemlock Haven Hunting Camp in Potter County. Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Audrey A. Witman companion of Mel Grill of Ephrata, four grandchildren: Stephanie wife of Robert Duncan of Lebanon, Matthew Ryan husband of Elizabeth Witman of Lisle, Ill., Keith Kenney Jr. companion of Donielle Welk of Ephrata, Erica Kenney of Ephrata, five great-grandchildren, a brother, Clarence "Whitey" husband of Paula Witman of Manheim, and three sisters: Gladys wife of Leslie Johnstone of Virginia Beach, Va., Lenore "Peggy" Ellison of Leonardstown, Md., and Reba wife of James Reppert of Manheim. Preceding him in death is a grandson, Michael, Great-Grandson, Michael, and three brothers: Milford, Dale, and Clyde "Red" Witman. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 10:30 am with Pastor R. Eugene Hill officiating. Interment is in Penryn Cemetery. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm with additional viewing on Saturday morning from 9:30 am until the time of the service. In Lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Glenn's memory to: Veterans Administration Medical Center Patient Care Fund , 1700 South Lincoln Avenue, Lebanon, Pa 17042.
