Gerald R. Peters

Gerald R. Peters, 67, of Manheim, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Cyrus R. and Anna Mary Ruhl Peters. Jerry was the loving husband of Carolyn Helt Peters and they observed their 45th wedding anniversary in January of this year. He was a 1965 graduate of Manheim Central High School. For over 32 years Jerry worked for the former Raymark Industries, Manheim, and then was employed at Ramclif Supply/York Corrugating, East Petersburg. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Jerry was a life member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Manheim, participating as an usher and on the church softball team. Memberships include: a life member of the Manheim VFW, Lancaster Area Kidney Association. An avid sports fan, Jerry passionately followed the New York Giants, Yankees, Boston Celtics and Manheim Central Baron sports. Jerry was deeply involved in baseball and softball throughout most of his life; coaching and umpiring Men’s and Youth teams within the Rec Leagues and Church Leagues in Lancaster County. He was a member of the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) Slow Pitch Umpire Association. Jerry had a life-long passion for his family and enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities.

Surviving in addition to his wife Carolyn, are two sons: Brian husband of Michelle Stoots Peters of Manheim, Kevin Peters fiancé of David Gelatt of Lancaster, a daughter, Lindsay wife of Jeremy Troop of Elizabethtown, five grandchildren: Kyle, Troy, and Sydney Peters, and Caleigh and Cayden Troop.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Jerry’s memorial service at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 50 North Main Street, Manheim, on Friday, March 6, 2015 at 6:00 PM. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Friday afternoon from 4:30 PM until the time of the service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Jerry’s memory to the Manheim Community Library, 15 East High Street, Manheim, PA 17545.
